Songs of Hesitation/Songs of Waiting places two dancers, two wills and two spaces amidst one another, raising doubts, adjustments, reconsiderations, and decisions against each other; the stretching of time in moments of stasis and silence, and how one attends to the tensions we carry and release through our pursuits, avoidance, and commitments. When one stops spinning about from action to action, what reverberations remain in mind, body, and space?
Songs of Hesitation/Songs of Waiting was performed as an open-air performance for the comissioned collaboration with saasfee*soundpark 08, an atmospheric sound installation within saasfee*pavillon’s exhibition program. Since 2017, saasfee* has invited musicians to compose site-specific sound installations and collages, where the garden below the pavillon becomes a spatial template for compositions and artistic interventions. With soundpark 08, Levy’s musical interpretations touch on the negotiations of time, decisions, and patience within a space meant to pass time. These suspended remnants explore the dialogue between public space and spatial negotiation, using the open garden as a sonic contact point to dissolve the barrier between ambience and spectatorship.
